早年經(jīng)歷
卡特生于英格蘭北約克郡的哈羅蓋特（Harrogate,NorthYorkshire,England）。他的父親在英國國防部工作，母親是女性務(wù)農(nóng)民兵，后來成為學(xué)校秘書?？ㄌ剡M(jìn)入哈羅蓋特的艾什維爾學(xué)院，并在畢業(yè)那年成為優(yōu)等生。后來他在蘇塞克斯大學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)法律，并成為剛成立的戲劇協(xié)會的重要人物?？ㄌ卦凇禨erjeantMusgrave'sDance》中扮演了主角。這部戲劇是在新建的GardnerArtsCentre劇院中第一部由學(xué)生制作的戲劇。
